Facilities / Lab
Usability testing is conducted at our own facilities in Grosvenor Gardens, London SW1, close to Victoria Station.
We have a large, boardroom-style viewing room, which can comfortably accommodate 10 observers. It features a large wall projection of onscreen PC activity for clarity of viewing by all and a full-screen TV head and shoulders shot of the user with real time audio, so no nuance of the testing is lost.
The viewing room is remote from the testing room and the user waiting area, so observers can come and go throughout the sessions and can discuss what is happening without fear of disturbing the users. The user waiting area has comfortable seating and is also removed from the testing room.
Morae
Morae recording is integrated into our facilities. Morae is the industry standard usability testing software suite. It enables recording of the test PC screen, all user actions (mouse/keyboard) and screen/page changes, video and audio for ‘picture-in-picture’ session analysis (and client copies or edited highlights – the latter also available as an additional option and cost) and the ability to observe a test remotely, streamed over the Internet.
Eye tracking
Our usability lab includes the latest Tobii eye tracking hardware and software. Use of real-time eye tracking is included as standard for all our user testing.
Detailed analysis and visualisations can be provided as an optional extra cost. – e.g. specific elements of interest can be illustrated with visualisations such as gaze plots, heat maps (sequence and fixations) and bee-swarm video clips.
The added benefits of eye tracking in real time are significant. The test moderator is able to observe where the user has or has not looked when attempting to accomplish tasks and goals and therefore can be more effective in choosing when to enquire further. The client team can also watch the live track and fixations which will immediately improve understanding of how the user perceives the site page designs.
Session videos
Unedited copies of the testing sessions (picture-in-picture) is provided at no extra cost. These can include both AVI format (Morae) and DVD-video (scan converted video).
Quality edited highlights can also be produced subsequent to the sessions.
Web-streaming of user sessions
If required, we are able to provide remote viewing of user sessions via a web-streaming facility.
